Two giraffes stand together on a grassy ridge of the African savanna. In this Animal Discovery, we follow the pair through a whole afternoon: the male stays close to the female, swings his long neck toward her, and twice rears up on his hind legs to try to mount her, while she simply walks on. Giraffe courtship is slow and patient: males follow a female for hours, test whether she is ready to mate, and often get turned down. Watch the pair from bright afternoon light to golden evening, until the two tall silhouettes stand alone against the twilight sky.
Filmed on the African savanna (December 2022). Natural ambient soundscape added in post-production.
